Minenwerfer shell

A booby trap Minenwerfer shell.

A tripwire is a component of an explosive booby trap, activated by a careless victim pulling on it. Tripwires can be attached to a variety of lethal, less-lethal and non-lethal weapons, however during wartime, explosive munitions and equipment are a more common choice for causing lethal damage to victims.

Battlefield 1[]

Singleplayer[]

This item has a Codex entry: Booby Traps
"Tripwire Bombs will set down an explosive charge on the ground. The charge is detonated via a sensitive tripwire deployed directly ahead."

— Campaign Hint

The Tripwire Bomb appears as an optional gadget in singleplayer, found during Campaign missions inside Weapon Crates. They can be used to set up ambushes on unaware enemies, by placing them across patrol paths or luring an enemy into the tripwire - or they can be deployed to cover a gap in your defenses such as a doorway in a building with multiple points of entry.

During stealth, deploying it can lure a nearby enemy within a short distance to investigate the sound, and detonating it will alert all enemy forces to your presence, if they have not been alerted previously. Otherwise, it is functionally identical to its Multiplayer counterpart.

Multiplayer[]

This item has a Codex entry: Watch Your Step
"18 pounder shell with a trip wire attached. Breaking the wire will detonate the bomb."

— In-game description

The Tripwire Bomb is a Scout gadget appearing in Battlefield 1. It was first seen during the "EA Play" event on June 12, 2016.

It consists of an 76mm Minenwerfer shell with a single tripwire extending about a meter in one direction. The shell is placed upright at the bearer's feet, and a tripwire is extended towards the exact spot on a surface that the player is looking at, shortly after placement. The tripwire is reminiscent of those used by the M18 Claymore in Battlefield 4, but only a single wire is deployed, and damage is dealt in all directions from the shell.

When a bomb is attached to a movable object—say, a door or a car—the bomb will detonate if the object is moved.

While the Tripwire Bomb does little to no damage to vehicles, it can severely injure exposed occupants. However, the incendiary bomb is fair for anti-vehicle support as well.

The player can choose between three variants:

  • High Explosive (gray shell)
  • Gas (green shell)
  • Incendiary (red shell)
