The Type 85 HMG is a heavy machine gun designed in China for the People's Liberation Army. It is a further improved version of the Type 77 heavy machine gun, which was a new design aiming for replaces DShK. It is used on vehicles much like the American M2 Browning, but it was primarily designed as an anti-aircraft gun as it is usually issued with a low-magnification scope that has a targeting reticle for both infantry and aircraft. The weapon can also be used on a lightweight tripod and can attach a tubular shoulder stock for infantry use.
Battlefield 2[]
The Type 85 HMG is a weapon featured in Battlefield 2 and is used in the secondary gunner position of the PLA Type 98 main battle tank, as well as the NJ 2046, the Chinese FAV, and Z-8. It performs nearly identically to its USMC and MEC counterparts, the M2 Browning and the KORD.
There is a line in the localization files that reads:
KILLMESSAGE_WEAPON_hmgtype85 Type 85 HMG
However, it is not seen in the game, as weapons mounted on vehicles will use the kill message of the vehicle itself.
Coaxial mount[]
The Type 85 HMG is also featured as the coaxial mount for the Type 98 MBT. However, its stats are different: the coaxial variant has a faster fire rate, but it is much less powerful, generally requires 2 shots to kill an infantry, and has more spread. Its stats are, however, identical to the coaxial variant of the M2 and PKT.

Trivia[]
- The W85 appeared in Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is modeled after the real life Type 85 HMG, despite two weapons are mechanically and externally different.
- On the contrary, the so-called Type 85 HMG in Battlefield 4 is modeled after the W85 heavy machine gun (QJC-88), instead of the real Type 85 HMG.
