Weapon Variants is a feature first introduced Battlefield Heroes and Battlefield Play4Free and was carried over to Battlefield 1. In Heroes and Play4Free, they feature as mainly cosmetic alterations with very minor stat changes. In Battlefield 1, it is a form of weapon customization and weapon progression where individual variants feature different attachments and properties. A weapon variants system also appeared in minor forms in Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield V.
Battlefield Heroes[]
In Battlefield Heroes, the weapon variant system namely consists of four individual qualities, being Stolen/Pilfered,Dapper/Stylish, Super/Uber, and Golden. Qualities are often determined by the team the weapon is available to, with the exception to Golden weapons.
Stolen and Pilfered[]
Stolen and Pilfered weapons, also referred to as Black Market weapons, are weapons that are statistically and cosmetically identical weapons available to the enemy team, released on May 19th, 2010.[1] Royal Army weapons available to the National Army are referred to as "Stolen", whereas the opposite are referred to as "Pilfered". Each stolen and pilfered weapon is unlocked seperately from the base weapon. Stolen and Pilfered qualities can be found combined with every other quality. Stolen and Pilfered weapons are exclusive to the base game weapons and the Battlefield Heroes Gets Bad Company update weapons.
Dapper and Stylish[]
Dapper and Stylish weapons are weapons that are statistically identical weapons to their base versions, however sporting a different cosmetic look. They were available for purchase with or , and were released in the Heroes of the Fall update. Royal Army weapons are referred to as "Dapper", whereas National Army weapons are referred to as "Stylish". Dapper and Stylish qualities can be found combined with the Stolen and Pilfered quality, released on May 25th, 2010.[2] Dapper and Stylish weapons are also exclusive to the certain base game weapons.
Super and Uber[]
Super and Uber weapons are weapons that are statistically and cosmetically different weapons to their base versions, featuring minor stat changes. They were available for purchase with , , or , and can be unlocked at level 10 for a specific faction and class. They were released for the Winter Armistice update, with a new weapon class being released from December 1st, 2009 to December 7th, 2009. Super and Uber weapons often contained a statistical boost, such as modified damage over range values, magazine sizes, and critical hit chance. Royal Army weapons are referred to as "Super", whereas National Army weapons are referred to as "Uber". Super and Uber qualities can be found combined with the Stolen and Pilfered quality, and are similar to the Golden quality. Super and Uber weapons are also exclusive to base game weapons, and are statistically identical to the Battlefield Heroes Gets Bad Company and Medal of Honor update weapons. During the Black Friday sale from November 22nd, 2010 to November 29th, 2010, all Super and Uber weapons, including stolen and pilfered versions, were on a 40% off discount.[3]
Golden[]
Golden weapons are exclusive weapons that are statistically identical weapons to their regular super and uber versions, featuring a golden finish. They were available to be earned via guessing the champion teams of various games (Spain in 2010 and 2012, Germany in 2014) of the 2010 FIFA World Cup (Football Fiesta 2010), UEFA Euro 2012 (Football Fiesta 2012), and the 2014 FIFA World Cup (Football Fiesta 2014) via purchasing cosmetic items from the store. Golden weapons released in 2013 were available through Top Up Gifts, which were then moved to the Premium Store. Golden weapons are statistically identical to the base, super or uber variants of each weapon, depending on the weapon.
Each update wave introduced new golden weapons over time. The first wave in 2010 featured golden variants of the weapons released in the Battlefield Heroes Gets Bad Company update. The second wave in 2012 introduced golden variants of specific Super and Uber weapons. The third wave in 2013 introduced golden variants of certain weapons via Top Up Gifts. The fourth wave in 2014 introduced Stolen and Pilfered variants of the 2010 weapons. Golden quality can be found combined with the Stolen and Pilfered quality.

Battlefield 3 featured weapon variants for secondaries, each with their own attachments, replacing the attachment system found on primary weapons.

Battlefield 4[]
Battlefield 4 featured weapon variants for Battle Pickups. These variants generally feature minor attachment differences (commonly optics), as players cannot modify the attachments of Battle Pickups. Examples include:
Battlefield 1[]
In Battlefield 1, weapon variants replace the weapon customization systems seen in Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, packaging several weapon mods into a single variant.
Most multiplayer weapons in Battlefield 1 feature 3 weapon variants. DLC weapons and Class Rank 10 weapons usually have fewer variants. Pistol-caliber carbines and handguns generally have no variants — while most pistol-caliber carbines in-game are modified handguns, they are fully distinct weapons gameplaywise.
Some weapons may have additional variants found only in singleplayer. Some weapons feature exclusive variants available from Booster Packs (e.g. Red Baron's P08). Kills made using these variants are not counted towards the progress required for assignments or Codex Entries.
Weapon variants are indicated by different suffixes behind weapons, while Booster Pack weapon variants are indicated by prefixed names. Weapon variant suffixes during Battlefield 1 alpha used a two-letter acronym system.
Factory[]
Factory (- FA during Alpha) is the base variant for many weapons, primarily SMGs and Self-Loading Rifles. These variants have no attachments and regain accuracy quicker. They are often the first variant unlocked.

Trench[]
Trench (- TR during Alpha) is a variant for multiple weapon classes. In most cases, it applies a Foregrip and improves hip fire.
For Single-Action Rifles, there are only two cases: Russian 1895 Trench and the Carcano M91 Carbine, which, despite its name, is a Trench variant. For Single-Action Rifles, Trench variants are a mixture of both Factory and Carbine, having improved hipfire/lower recoil increase of a Carbine, but the aim down sight while moving spread and spread decrease is identical to Infantry variants.
While the base variant of the M1917 Trench Carbine doesn't have Trench as a suffix, it is functionally a trench variant.

Marksman[]
Marksman (- SH during Alpha, Sharpshooter during Beta) is a variant for Self-Loading Rifles and Single-Action Rifles. On Self-Loading Rifles, the variant attaches a High-powered scope and a foregrip.
On Single-Action Rifles, the variant attaches a medium-powered Telescopic Sight and Palm Rest (the latter except for the Mosin-Nagant M91 and Ross MkIII), the Marksman rifle have low power scopes for medium range engagements. They have very little sway and can be "steadied" to have no sway if need be. Originally, they do not have Scope Glint until the Weapons Crate Update in May 2018. When firing, one must unzoom to pull back the bolt with the exception of the Ross MkIII and Gewehr M.95 due to their straight pull nature.

Infantry[]
Infantry (Rifleman during Beta) is a variant for Single-Action Rifles. It is an analogue to Factory variants, and feature no optics, with iron sights (although one can opt out infavor of Radium Sights if one desires). In general they feature quicker spread and recoil recovery and aiming down speed over their counterparts. They can also operate action while aiming down sights.

Carbine[]
Carbine (- CA during Alpha) is a variant for Single-Action Rifles. They possess a Lens Sight and are always a shorter carbine version of the base rifle-sized weapon. Carbines generally have a slower ADS time and more recoil compared to its infantry counterpart, but have improved spread handling while moving in both ADS and hipfire. They can also operate action while aiming down sights.
While the base version of the Carcano M91 Carbine is named with a Carbine suffix, it is functionally a Trench variant.

Sweeper[]
Sweeper (- AU during Alpha, Automatic during Beta for M1907 SL; Assault for M97 Trench Gun during development)[4] is a variant for the M1907 SL and the M97 Trench Gun. It has different properties for the two weapons but has the same shared effect of improving hip fire potency.
A Sweeper variant for the Howdah Pistol is exclusive to DICE employees in the base game. It is usable by all players in Community Test Environment, as well as in singleplayer.

Silenced/Silencer[]
Silenced is a special variant exclusive to the M1917 Enfield. It fits a suppressor onto the rifle, reducing the weapon's sound and muzzle flash. A high-powered sniper scope is attached to the weapon. Due to the suppressor, the M1917 Enfield Silenced cannot equip either a bayonet or a bipod. Additionally, they do show Scope glint.
In singleplayer, the C96 pistol and the M1903 also has their own Silencer variant.

The Export is a special developer-only variant for the C96 in the base game. It can be used by all players in the CTE. It is chambered in a different cartridge, giving it a different damage model.

Standard Issue Rifles[]
Standard Issue Rifles are available when the corresponding gamemode is turned on in servers. Each faction has a representative rifle, which is functionally identical to the Infantry version, but is treated as a different weapon to all the other variants. On servers that mix Standard Issue Rifles and regular weapons, these are identifiable by their lack of a suffix, however, Service Stars obtained with them will have the suffix "Standard Issue".

Battlefield Heroes[]
- Stolen and Pilfered weapons carry the same animations as their original versions to the soldiers, resulting in mismatched animation sets for the characters, including the firing angle of the weapon. Despite this, the bullets still originate from the same location upon the body.
Battlefield 1[]
- The Suppressive variant was originally known as the Suppressor variant. The name was likely changed to avoid confusion with the sound suppressor, which the variant does not have.
- Backbored refers to a shotgun modification known as "backboring", where the weapon's barrel interior diameter is increased with tools, lowering the barrel pressure and shortening the shot string.
- The Ottoman Empire originally used the Martini-Henry as its Standard Issue Rifle, but this was changed in the October 2017 Update for balance.
- The Mosin-Nagant M91 does not appear in the "Standard Issue Rifles" section of the "Weapons & Gadgets" menu and is only viewable inside a game.
