The YUV-2 Pondhawk is a vehicle featured in Battlefield 2042, introduced in Dark Creations season. Player can unlock the vehicle by reaching tier 25 in the Battle Pass or complete certain assignments after the season. It is available for both United States and Russia.
The Pondhawk is completely unique in the light transport category in that it has the ability to fly, avoiding obstacles that ground vehicles are forced to contend with - and even providing unique flank opportunities and angles one to take advantage of. Although it is classified as an air vehicle, the YUV-2 can be requested for call-in.
Some of the main caveats to the Pondhawk include its open nature, which leaves a high likelihood of being shot out of the vehicle. It is also unable to run any piece of dedicated weaponry. This makes it unable to defend itself in occasions where it must fight directly. However, the player sitting in the passenger slot can run as a dedicated gunman in its stead, only limited by the class that they choose. The Engineer is a great option to keep the vehicle repaired and destroying vehicles with anti-vehicle weaponry. If opposing vehicles are not of a concern, the Support class is good for keeping the occupants alive and keeping ammo and medical supplies stocked up.
However. Its aforementioned weakness of it being an open seat lends it to the driver, the gunman or both to being easily shot out by opposing forces, making direct engagements dangerous and to be treated with caution, also an eye on height. Additionally. due to its fragile frame, it is not a difficult vehicle to destroy, as dedicated pressure on a crew can easily destroy it. Its climb speed is also something to be desired in dedicated climbs. One must also note as well to not treat it as a bumper car, As collisions can cause damage and eventual spontaneous combustion.
As it is classified as an air vehicle, It may only be locked onto with the FXM-33 AA Missile or dedicated IR Missiles. For anti-tank launchers to lock onto it, laser designation by a Recon class is required. The Pondhawk will not be equipped with countermeasures at default.
