Yamato

The Yamato-class battleship (Japanese: 大和型戦艦 Yamato-gata senkan; named after the ancient Yamato province) were a class of Japanese battleships designed prior to and constructed during World War II. They were the largest and most powerful battleships ever built, and were the pride and symbol of the might of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The first one, the Yamato, was laid down in 1937, and the second, the Musashi, was laid down in 1938. Both were lost during the war, sunk by American carrier aircraft.

Battlefield 1942[]

The only thing it cannot withstand is a submarine attack, so keep a destroyer escort handy. It can also provide sustained shore bombardment, and when combined with a friendly scout, this can be very effective. The LCVPs at the rear of the ship can be used to make beach landings."

In Battlefield 1942, the Yamato is the Imperial Japanese Navy's battleship. It is a gargantuan vessel, being so large that it is even bigger than the Shōkaku, although only slightly. It boasts 4 positions: one captain, one rear gunner and two side gunners.

The captain pilots the ship and has the battleship's frontal guns at their disposal, which can fire barrages of 5 projectiles per shot, and reload relatively quickly.

The rear gunner has the ships dorsal guns at their disposal, similar to those of the captain's. This position can also respond to artillery requests called by friendly scouts.

The two side gunners have smaller, rapid firing domed turrets, which are more efficient against aircraft and ground targets.

The Yamato also boasts a huge amount of armor, being able to sustain more damage than the Shōkaku.
